About Our Heritage Turkeys

We raise our Heritage Turkeys on pasture, non-GMO ground mash, organic oats, and vegetable surplus. These turkeys are reminiscent of the traditional “Thanksgiving” turkeys of old. The breeds are rare and maybe endangered, some dating back to the 1700 and 1800 hundreds.

 

Currently, we are raising Narragansett and Chocolate (popular in the South before the Civil War) turkeys.  The meat is just like the “oldies”, healthy and with a succulent flavor and texture.Since our heritage breeds are slower growing, they are naturally better suited to the higher welfare and all natural rearing system on pasture.  (In the United States most modern poultry industrial production models use fast growing breeds crowded into production houses with little room to turn around and are not allowed outdoors.)
